Virtual Author Presentation with Colin Mustful

On Thursday, April 22 at 7 pm, the St. Croix County Historical Society will host author and historian Colin Mustful for a virtual author presentation From Natives to Lumbermen: The Central Importance of a Border Town.

Today, Interstate I-94 travels through the middle of Hudson, a city on the western edge of Wisconsin bordering Minnesota. But for most of its history, Hudson could not be recognized for its position between states or its location along any freeway. Situated at the mouth of the Willow River, the place we now call Hudson is located at the heart of the lower St. Croix River Valley, a region long sought after for its abundance of natural resources. From natives to lumbermen; from French to British to American; from Northwest Territory to Michigan to Wisconsin — throughout its history the political geography of the St. Croix River Valley has been constantly fluctuating.

In this presentation, historian Colin Mustful will examine the history of Hudson long before it became a city on the western edge of the state of Wisconsin, revealing the central importance of this border town.
