Christmas Lights Tours

Enjoy a unique tour of the Octagon House Museum at dusk with the historic lamps and Christmas lights all aglow.

There are only THREE opportunities to enjoy this unique view of the Museum on Saturdays, December 4th, 11th and 18th from 4 – 5 pm.

Learn about Old World traditions of Christmas—how settlers brought them to the new world and made them their own.

This winter season the Octagon House Museum’s theme is “An Early Hudson Christmas: Bringing Old World Traditions to the New World.” The setting is 1860s Hudson and the storyline highlights a number of Old World traditions, some of which are still in practice today.  A beautifully decorated tree will be featured in the parlor, with wreathes in the windows, just as though the Moffat-Hughes family were with us for the holidays. Greens adorning our entries and passageways remind us of the Victorian era.

Octagon House Museum

The St. Croix County Historical Society maintains the Octagon House Museum complex, which is open for guided tours May through October & December. In addition to the gracious eight-sided house with Victorian era furnishings, the complex includes the Garden House with its 19th century life, domestic arts, carpenter, blacksmith, and general store tableaux; and the Carriage House, which includes the Museum Gift Shop and research center. All structures are set amid expansive, beautifully maintained gardens.
